Important Updates and Information as You Seek Free Tax Prep NYC at Ariva
It’s almost time to file your taxes!
On January 21, several of our tax sites will be open, and Ariva’s tax preparation team and volunteers will be ready to help you file. By February 7, all of our tax sites will be open—but don’t wait to get organized and ready. The sooner you have your documents and paperwork in order, the sooner you can make an appointment with us to receive free tax prep NYC and the refund you deserve.
Here are a few important updates from the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) and from us for filing your 2025 taxes returns:
IRS Information and Updates
The most important change to filing taxes this year is that the IRS is now requiring all refunds to be electronically deposited into a bank account. The federal government is no longer issuing or mailing paper checks. Please read the official announcement with more detail.
You will need to have a bank account or be prepared to open one before you file your taxes. If you don’t have one yet, our team can provide guidance and help you open an account with one of our trusted community bank partners.
Ariva Information and Updates
We encourage you to review the list of required documents on our website before you make an appointment or walk in so you don’t need to come back. Do your best to have all income documents, but if you feel you are missing some, don’t worry: we can help you access lost or prior year income documents, as we did for Ariva tax client Kylie when she faced a health challenge.

Too busy to come visit one of our tax sites in the Bronx? No problem. You can file from the comfort of your own home with the support of tax department employees. They will guide you step-by-step as you complete your tax returns at no charge using secure online tax software.
You qualify for assistance if you:
- earned $89,000 or less in 2025, filing as an individual or family
- have basic computer skills
- have an active email account
Virtual sessions will be held from 10:00 am to 5:00 pm on the following Fridays in 2026:
- February 6, 13, 20 and 27
- March 6, 13, 20 and 27
- April 3 and 10
