Closing out our 2025 tax season with gratitude and appreciation for our community and the IRS’s Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) program. 

That’s a wrap! What an incredible tax season we just closed out. In addition to serving more than 8,000 people across 12 tax sites, we also focused on reaching and supporting more than 900 seniors. And, we can’t do it without our dedicated volunteer team. Over 100 people joined us as tax preparation volunteers to provide high-quality and trustworthy tax filing services. 

Maribel Montilla, our Tax Director, says: “Providing our Bronx clients with free, reliable tax preparation year after year wouldn’t be possible without the help of our service-oriented volunteers and the much-needed, generous support from the IRS. Our volunteers’ dedication reflects the spirit of our community and a shared commitment to service. Every hour they contribute and every return they file helps lift financial burdens and empowers families to take control of their futures.

This program is more than just tax prep; it’s about building trust, offering opportunity, and creating real savings and wealth-building opportunities for the people we serve.

Thankfully, our impact this 2025 tax season isn’t unique. For more than 50 years, the IRS’s Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) program and the federal funding we receive has ensured that our Bronx and New York City communities have access to free tax filing. This includes: 

  • People with lower incomes;
  • Persons with disabilities; 
  • Taxpayers whose primary language is not English; and
  • Seniors 60 years of age and older

We are proud and grateful to be part of the national VITA provider community for more than 20 years. While most of our seasonal tax sites are now closed, New York City residents can still visit our three year-round tax sites for late filing, support with a refund or payment, or with questions about getting ready for filing next year. Additionally, people can make an appointment for free financial counseling at our year-round sites for one-to-one help with budgeting, credit-building, and long-term financial planning.
