How can I file back-year tax returns or to amend previous tax returns?

What can I do if I received a letter from the IRS or New York State Department of Taxation?

Where is my federal refund?

If you filed your tax return and are expecting a refund from the IRS, visit www.irs.gov and click on “Where’s my refund?” to check your federal refund status.

The IRS usually has information about your refund a few days after your return was e-filed, or three to four weeks after mailing a paper return. You will need to provide your Social Security number, filing status and the exact refund amount expected.

Where is my New York State refund?

To check your New York State refund status go to www.tax.ny.gov. Click on “Individuals”, then “Check refund status” to track your refund. You will need to provide your Social Security number and the type of form you filed.
